How we work beyond an initial conversation:
Beyond an initial discussion, our involvement varies depending upon the nature of the work - often this is an initial meeting at your building, before which we would review any information that you can provide us about the building’s history (or which we can find online!). We would discuss your ideas during our visit, and make suggestions based on our experience of working with a wide range of ‘heritage assets’. After the meeting we would provide you with our advice in written/hand-drawn form (depending on the nature of our advice). We typically charge for our time for these activities, but if the project moves beyond this meeting, we generally discount this amount from our subsequent fee for the project.
Next steps following an initial visit:
If you like our ideas following our initial visit and would like to appoint Cerowski Architects, we would prepare a fee proposal based on a ‘project brief’, set out by us, and agreed with you. Our preference is always to provide best value to our clients for our services, and so we tend to work to a fixed fee, for a fixed set of activities (the exact activities vary from project to project). We find that this gives building owners the best possible cost certainty at an early point in their project.
Note: As historic building specialist Architects we provide a wide range of other services - the activities set out above are typical for an extension, alteration, repair, or new-build project, but our involvement would differ if asked to prepare a Heritage Statement, assist another Architect (with our assistance limited to advising on the historic building), providing Condition Surveys, Quinquennial Inspections, or something else. If this applied to your project, we would discuss it with you during our initial conversation.
